Abstract

This article examines the development of contemporary art in Kazakhstan and the formation processes of new media art. The article explains key concepts from the theory of contemporary art, such as multidisciplinarity, multimedia, hybrid experience, multimodality, and transmediality, and provides specific examples from the work of Kazakhstani artists. The study pays particular attention to the interaction of media such as video art, installation, photography, and digital technologies, as well as the artistic practices of the artists themselves.

The article is based on the author’s master's thesis titled “Art in the Digital Age.” The analysis draws on the works of Boris Groys “In the Flow”, Walter Benjamin “The Work of Art in the Age of Mechanical Reproduction”, Lev Manovich “The Language of New Media”, Marshall McLuhan “Understanding Media: The Extensions of Man”, as well as other key sources on the theory of contemporary art and media.
