Publication ethics
«JETE – Journal of Philosophy, Religious and Cultural Studies» adheres to the traditional ethical principles of academic publishing, as outlined in the Code of Ethics for Journal Editors developed by the Committee on Publication Ethics (Committee on Publication Ethics: COPE, Promoting integrity in scholarly research and its publication | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics), which includes the following requirements:
For Authors
Submission of articles to the editorial board implies the authors' agreement to grant the Publisher — L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University — the right to publish their articles in the journal and to republish them in any foreign language. By submitting a manuscript, the author(s) guarantee that they do not violate any copyright laws. The authors grant the publisher, L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, exclusive rights for an unlimited period to:
- reproduce the Work (publish, disclose, duplicate, replicate, or otherwise copy the Work) without limitation on the print run, and to distribute the Work by any means. Each copy must include the name(s) of the author(s);
- include the Work in a collective publication;
- make the Work publicly accessible;
- use the Work's metadata (title, author’s name, abstract, bibliographic references, full text, etc.) for dissemination, processing, and systematization, and for inclusion in various databases and information systems, including full-text versions of the published Work.
The authors agree that there are no territorial limitations on the use of rights to the Work.
The author(s) also grant the journal’s publisher the right to store and process their personal data without time restrictions (surname, first name, patronymic, educational background, place of employment, and job title). These personal data are provided for storage and processing in various databases and information systems, for inclusion in analytical and statistical reports, and for establishing justified correlations between works of science, literature, and art and personal data.
The author(s) bear full responsibility for any unlawful use of intellectual property or copyright-protected materials in the article, in accordance with the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The author(s) consent to the journal publisher checking the Work for plagiarism.
The author(s) confirm that the submitted Work has not been previously published, submitted, or will be submitted to any other academic publication.
The author has read and is familiar with the journal’s editorial policy, which includes general information about the journal, article review procedures, author guidelines, and publication ethics.
For Reviewers:
The journal applies a double-blind peer review process to ensure the quality of published articles. Reviewers should evaluate only the results of the research presented.
- Each manuscript received for review is treated as a confidential document. Reviewers must not use any content from the submitted manuscript in their own publications. The manuscript may only be shared with third parties with the permission of the Editor-in-Chief.
- Reviewers are required to provide an objective evaluation of the manuscript and, if necessary, suggest ways to improve the submitted material.
- Reviewers must decline to review a manuscript if they are not experts in the subject area, and notify the editorial office accordingly.
For Editors:
The Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors, and members of the Editorial Board commit to the following:
- Pay special attention to the quality of submitted articles, participate in Editorial Board meetings, and consistently provide reasoned opinions on whether they agree or disagree with reviewers’ decisions, as well as participate in decisions regarding the content of each journal issue.
- Promote geographic diversity among authors and invite experts from various institutions and countries to contribute.
- Evaluate the intellectual content of manuscripts regardless of the author's gender, nationality, religion, or other personal characteristics.
- Refrain from reviewing manuscripts in cases of conflict of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with authors or their institutions.
Editor-in-Chief:
- Selects reviewers (scholars or specialists in the relevant subject area) for each submitted manuscript that has passed the initial screening for compliance with technical requirements.
- Based on the reviewers’ feedback and discussion during the editorial board meeting determining the content of the upcoming issue, makes the final decision regarding the publication of the submitted material.
Editorial Office:
The editorial office works directly with article authors and does not collaborate with agencies that offer services to authors for publishing the results of their research.
The editorial team is committed to making prompt decisions upon detecting unethical behavior by authors, editors, or reviewers. Unethical author behavior includes falsification of authorship, publication of pseudo-scientific texts, fabrication or falsification of data, citation manipulation, plagiarism, and simultaneous submission to other journals.
If unethical behavior by the author(s) is discovered during the manuscript review or pre-publication process, the editorial office reserves the right to withdraw the manuscript from consideration and cease further collaboration with the author. If unethical behavior is identified after the article has been published (e.g., parallel publication, copyright violations, plagiarism), the editorial board has the right to retract the article from both the journal’s website and archiving or indexing databases, and to notify other journals where the article may have been published concurrently.
The editorial office commits not to make unjustified retraction decisions unless significant issues are discovered post-publication (e.g., unethical conduct by the author, errors, etc.).
Unethical behavior by reviewers and editors includes submitting article texts to other journals without the authors’ consent, sharing authors’ materials with third parties, violating copyright, breaching the confidentiality of the editorial process, and supporting manuscripts due to conflicts of interest arising from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with the authors or their affiliated organizations.
In the event of complaints regarding reviewed or published materials, the editorial board is obligated to take appropriate responsive measures. First, the author will be asked to provide an explanation. An investigation will be conducted only if the author's response is deemed unsatisfactory.
Any potential cases of ethical misconduct by authors, editors, or reviewers that are not explicitly addressed above will be resolved in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Journal Editors from the Committee on Publication Ethics (Committee on Publication Ethics: COPE, Promoting integrity in scholarly research and its publication | COPE: Committee on Publication Ethics).
The journal allows the Editor-in-Chief, Deputy Editors, members of the editorial board and council, and reviewers to publish in the journal. However, they may not take advantage of their positions. All submissions, including those from guest editors of special issues, undergo the same peer review process and are subject to editorial board review.
