The psychology of religion has come a long way from its pre-paradigmatic state, when studies were fragmented and lacked a unified methodological framework, to the modern stage, where a multi-level interdisciplinary paradigm is emerging. Throughout much of the 20th century, this field remained on the periphery of scientific research. However, in recent decades, there has been a growing interest in integrating various scientific approaches. The development of the psychology of religion is driven by the need to consider both internal psychological processes (cognitive and emotional aspects) and external socio-cultural factors.

Modern research encompasses a wide range of methodologies, including quantitative, qualitative, and neuropsychological methods. This opens new perspectives for studying religious experiences, beliefs, and practices and their influence on personality. In the context of globalization and intercultural interaction, the role of the psychology of religion is increasing, requiring further expansion of its theoretical and empirical foundations
