Yazidism represents a syncretic religious phenomenon that developed under the influence of ancient Mesopotamian and Iranian traditions. The key feature of this worldview lies in the harmonious integration of elements from various major religions and local traditions, forming a distinctive mosaic structure, which resulted in the emergence of an independent philosophical and ritual system. The Yazidi community is characterized by relative exclusivity, while at the same time being influenced by diverse cultural and religious traditions, forming as a group closely associated with the ethnic Kurdish dialectal space. This study is aimed at a comprehensive analysis of the history of the formation of the Yazidis, their beliefs, and their system of worship. In the course of the research, the origin of the term “Yazidi,” the historical stages of the community’s formation, and the religious and spiritual influence of Sheikh Adi were examined. Furthermore, the structure and evolution of Yazidi beliefs and cultic practices, their symbolic and philosophical meanings, as well as the influence of other religions and faiths, were analyzed.
The conclusions of the study allow for a comprehensive understanding of the philosophical, symbolic, ritual, and social aspects of the Yazidi worldview and provide a systematic comprehension of its religious-cognitive structure. The analysis of Yazidi beliefs and worship practices demonstrates their significance in the spiritual and social life of the community, their role in strengthening collective identity, and the ethical and philosophical principles aimed at understanding and organizing the world. The study’s content enables a scientific assessment of the complex symbolic structure of the Yazidi tradition, its ritual practices, and its syncretic philosophical system.
